Menkes Developments Ltd.

Menkes Developments Ltd. was founded in 1954 by Polish-Canadian Murray Menkes to develop single-family homes in the Toronto area.[4] In the 1960s, Menkes Developments grew out of the single-home development into apartment and condo rental buildings. Toronto's first condominium was registered by Menkes Developments in 1969.[5] In 1976, Menkes Developments established a condo division for the company.[6]

Menkes Developments saw an opportunity for development in North York in the 1980s. In 1984, Menkes Developments built a high-rise office tower on Yonge Street which later became the Canadian headquarters for Procter & Gamble. Following the successful development of the Proctor & Gamble building, the North York area gradually became an economic urban centre due largely to Menkes Developments.[7] In 2006, Menkes Developments began the construction of a $250 million 30-storey tower called 25 York Street. The lead tenent of 25 York Street was Telus Corporation occupying 60% of the building.[8][9] 25 York Street was completed in 2009 and it was the first building by Menkes Developments to be awarded LEED certification.[10]

In 2018 Menkes Developements partnered with Greystone Managed Investments on the developments at Sugar Wharf on Queens Quay. The first phase of the Sugar Wharf development began in 2018 by Menkes Developments on a new office tower called 100 Queens Quay East.[11]
