People's Press (Beijing)

People's Press (Chinese: 人民出版社),[3] commonly known as People's Publishing House,[4] abbreviated as PPH,[5] is a China's state-run and CCP-run[6] comprehensive publishing house based in Beijing,[7] which mainly publishes books on philosophy and social sciences, and is the official publisher of political and ideological books for the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese Government.[8]

People's Publishing House was originally established 1 September 1921,[9] and was rebuilt on 1 December 1950.[10] Its important publications include classic works of Marxism,[11] and works by "Leaders of the Party and State" (党和国家领导人) of the People's Republic of China.[12]

In 1986, Ge Jianxiong's dissertation, Population Geography of the Western Han Dynasty (西汉人口地理), was published as a monograph by the People's Publishing House,[13] which was the first doctoral thesis of history published in the PRC.[14]
