Rocky (South Korean singer)

Park Min-hyuk (Korean: 박민혁 born February 25, 1999) better known by his stage name Rocky (라키), is a South Korean singer, rapper, dancer, composer and model under the label of Fantagio. He is a member of the South Korean boy group Astro.

Early life

Rocky was born on February 25, 1999 in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. He attended and graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School with a focus on Practical Music.[1]

He's the oldest child in the family with Father, mother and a younger brother who was born in 2003.

Career

2006-2015: Pre debut

In 2010 in the fifth grade of elementary school. He participated in the audition for the musical Billy Elliot.[2] In the same year, he became trainee under Fantagio Music. Rocky and Moonbin had the longest trainee years among all the members of Astro.

Rocky had been a contestant of Korea’s Got Talent in 2011.[3]

In 2014, at the age of 15 he officially started off as choreographer when the company asked him to create choreography for 5urprise's Jump.

He's the first trainee who has been introduced into i-Teen project, Lotte world rising start concert.[4]

Before their debut, Rocky along with the other 5 members of Astro had starred in a web-drama To Be Continued.[5]

2016-present: Debut with Astro and solo activities

Rocky debuted as part of the six-member boy group Astro on February 23, 2016, as a dancer and rapper of the group. Their first EP, Spring Up contains five songs including the lead single "Hide & Seek".[6]

In July 2016, he participated in creating choreography for Six Pack Ultra Dance Festival special stage on Inkigayo, which include the six main dancers from different groups. On August 24, 2016, Rocky appeared in an episode of MNET's Hit the Stage in a masked make up of Jim Carrey's Ipkiss role in the movie Mask.[7] Rocky received praise from the judges, noting his expressions and movements as perfect copy of Jim Carrey's[8]

On November 5, 2018, after fourrounds of battle in 1theK's Dance War, Rocky was revealed to be Purple 23 and placed second in the dance battle.[9][10][11] On November 30, 2018, Fantagio Music released the digital single "Star" which is a collaboration of Rocky and singer-songwriter Chawoo. It is the 11th single from Fantagio Music's project "FM201.8-11Hz".[12] Star was one of the 12 tracks that was included in the physical album "FM201.8" which was released in December 13, 2018.[13]

During Astro's second Astroad to Seoul "Starlight" concert which was held on December 22–23, 2018, Rocky performed his first solo song "Have a Good Day".[14] It was included in the DVD of the concert which was released in June 2019.[15]

In 2019, Rocky self-composed one of the tracks from Astro's sixth EP, titled “When the Wind Blows”.[16][17]

Rocky was also one of the composers for the group’s special single “No I don’t” which was released in June 2020.[18][19][20]

On June 24, 2020, Rocky was announced to be the solo MC for the Chinese Korean Wave Program Idol Coming to Work (爱 豆 上班 啦).[21] The show promotes the Hallyu wave to China-wide market.[22]

On September 29, 2020, Rocky’s first OST entitled "Shiny Blue" was released for the web drama Dok Go Bin Is Updating[23]
